38 and Feeling GREAT!
The end of a decade and the beginning of a new one.
The last ten years was an amazing journey and I can say that turning 38 today, I feel stronger, healther and younger than ever! 2009 capped the decade with one of the worst recessions ever but despite that grim fact, I’ve had an amazing year reuniting with old friends and family.
The beginning of the year started out rough with a car accident that left me recovering for a good 6 months and the lost of my Grandmother whom I will always be inspired by her sheer strength and independence. At the same time, the financial crisis hit home, job loss was at an all time high and the tension in the air was thickening with self doubt and fear.
But just like a muscle needs stimulation via resistance to grow and
become stronger, so does the Spirit. And this year provided just that, opportunity to grow and become stronger! The best thing about hitting an all time low (or Rock bottom as some may call it) is that things can only get better. And that is how 2009 played out for me. Here are the highlights I wish to remember;
- Through the loss of my Grandmother, I got to meet my Half Brother for the very first time
- Reuniting with my family down south and getting to know my Half Sister for the very first time
- While recovering, I got to read ”Born to Run” by Christopher McDougall and was inspired to train for my very first Ultra marathon down in the Copper Canyons of Mexico this year. (The best way to recover from anything is to get inspired by a challenging goal.)
- Learn that my dear Sister is expecting and I will become an Uncle once again.
- Meeting Dean Karnazes in person (see my last blog entry). No words can express the experience of meeting someone whom you’re inspired by so much.
- Running into Christopher McDougall in person at City Sports for
a book signing while shopping for running gear (Now that was being at the right place at the right time!) - 7. Through the magic of “Facebook”, I reunited with my Best friend in almost 14 years!
So here I am, embarking on a new decade, 38 years into my own personal journey. What have I learned?
ONE: No matter how bad things get, so it will pass.
TWO: Family and Friends is the only thing that matters on this journey
and
THREE: When the dust settles at the end of the day, its up to YOU and Only You, how well your day was and will be tomorrow.
Yours in Health and STRENGTH!
Stan
